#187: The Hilarious Art of Coaching Yourself Through Your Own Problems

June 5, 2020—I love hiring coaches, but I’m not nearly rich enough to afford $250/hr every time I get creative block. So I decided to become my own client.

I’m in a creative slump right now—and, per usual, I don’t know why. Everything seems pretty good. I’m on Day 187 of a year-long illustration challenge, I just did a pistol squat for the first time, and I’m finally learning to cook vegan dishes that don’t taste like cat food. Yay!

Except, not yay, because I’m living in grayscale right now.

At times like these, my default impulse is to spend money. If only I had those Benny Greb hi-hat cymbals…if only my room had overhead lighting…if only I could hire a motivational life coach…

THEN I would feel creative again.

The truth is, I always solve my own problems eventually—but I don’t want to wait around this time. I want to fast-track my happiness.

I’m going to try and coach myself. Let’s see what happens…

Self-Coaching Session No.1

Coach: Seems like you’re in a slump. How can I help?

Andrew: Yea…I’m halfway through a 365-day illustration challenge, but lately I’m feeling like it’s pointless. I want to help…
