#275: How I Use an “ADHD Cart” to Keep Creativity From Breaking My Bank
August 14, 2020 — Sometimes it feels like my creative ADHD is a shopaholic. But just taking away the credit card doesn’t work. That’s why I’ve started using a weird trick I call the “ADHD Cart.”
When people tell me I’m doing too much, my instinctual reaction is always, “No…I’m TOTALLY FINE. I just need to come up with a better system to deal with all this stuff!!”
But that’s a lie.
Productivity doesn’t make me productive, it just helps me waste my time more efficiently.
Believe me, I’ve tried every system under the sun.
The only thing that works is LESS.
Doing less.
Buying less.
Planning less.
(I don’t mean NOT planning. I mean literally planning fewer things — and, whenever possible, UN-planning things.)
When I forget about less and start chasing MORE, my creative ADHD boils over like a pot of pasta. My life becomes an insane race to nowhere as I ladle water into an overflowing container, hoping this will somehow magically increase its capacity.
