#299: Mindset is BS Designed to Make You Passive So You Can Be Sold More BS

September 7, 2020 — Mindset has been all the rage for the past five years, but I’m not buying it. I think mindset is marketing BS designed to make us passive, so we can be sold more BS.

Twelve years ago, a lady came into my high school health class and said she was going to teach us how to relax.

She told everyone to close their eyes and started describing the sound of waves “whooshing on the beach.”

Ugh…I thought. This is so cheesy.

For the next half hour, I sat at my desk drawing and occasionally glaring up from my notebook like…

My high school self had not yet been exposed to words like “meditation” and “mindfulness,” but this low-key cage match would turn out to be a good metaphor for how I decided to live the rest of my life.

I kept my eyes open.

I decided that mindset was bullshit before I even knew it existed.
