Calling out “racism” and “misogyny” accomplishes absolutely nothing. It just makes the problem worse — it drives people further into their corners. It’s like someone standing on a railroad crossing and “calling out” a train right up to the point where they get run over.

If we’re going to solve this problem, we need to address the root cause — and the root cause is not “white male rage. ” That’s a side-effect. The way to move forward is by asking why.

Why are white men so angry? Because they’re scared. Why are they scared? Because they see their world changing and they don’t know how to cope. Why don’t they know how to cope? Because they were raised not to express or even spend time understanding their own feelings. And so on.

Very quickly, the conversation gains nuance, and nuance is much more useful than shame. Nuance tells us what to fix. Shame only tells us who’s “at fault.” And that doesn’t really fix anything, does it?
