Capitalism is Brutal (But Unique Beats the “Best”)

January 17, 2022 — It’s tough to get ahead in capitalism, but being unique will take you ten times farther than hard work.

When I started YouTubing back in 2019, all I wanted was to get monetized and have a few thousand followers.

I didn’t bother investing in camera equipment or writing scripts or editing my videos, because it seemed like a modest effort would bring modest results.

But six months in, I hadn’t gotten ANY results.

So I swung to the other extreme and tried to rank #1 by making “ultimate guides” filled with weeks of research and elaborate footage shot on professional gear…

…yet even when I ranked in the top ten, my views were still low, and I was quickly replace by other creators.

Exhausted, I thought…

Capitalism is brutal, and the only way to survive is to kill myself for #1, or spend the rest of my life feeding on the scraps of second-best.
