Day 53 of 365: Saving Ryan’s Privates

I used to hate winter running. I’d go out once or twice a week (in a cotton hoodie, gym pants, and mittens) and head back home after a mile or so with my tail between my legs.

Soggy. Freezing. Completely miserable.

Winter had me whipped.

But when you work at a running store, you starting buying stuff.

And once I got myself properly winterized, my whole worldview changed from “$100 for a wind jacket??” to “this is the deal of the century…it will LITERALLY keep me warm for the rest of my life!”

Normally, I’m a minimalist, and I don’t like buying a bunch of fancy junk, but the last two winters have been a lesson in pragmatism.

When it comes to well-made products you’ll use every day for a long time…

SPEND THE MONEY.

Custer’s Last Stand (The Exception)

After a couple seasons of apparel shopping, I’m basically set for life.

  • 30x Wool socks: check!
  • 2x Wool gloves: check!
  • 1x Wool hat: check!
  • 1x Neck gaiter: check!
  • 2x Tights: check!
  • 1x Wind jacket: check
