Feed Your Passion (The Perfect Day Series, Pt. 5 of 6)
“Does this look inanimate to you, punk? If I can talk, and I can move, who's to say I can’t anything I want?”
—Audrey II, Little Shop of Horrors
You have your ONE THING — your craft, your money-maker. But there’s this other thing that won’t go away. It’s your passion project. And if you don’t feed your passion project, it’s going to eat you alive.
I seem to have a gift for drawing. I do it naturally and people love my stupid little comics. When I stop making them, they ask: What happened???
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy drawing, but MUSIC is my passion.
I have 149 playlists on Spotify, I listen to thousands of artists, I watch videos about music production, and write songs…I love it, even though (or more likely because) it isn’t profitable for me.
Use Your Passion as an Incentive
It’s hard to do things you have to do. That’s why I started using my passion project (music) as an incentive to jump out of bed and plow through my daily comic and blog post (the words you’re reading right now).
The faster I finish the things I must do, the sooner I can start playing with things I don’t need to do.
And let me tell you, there is nothing more fucking liberating than getting to create art AFTER you’ve killed your to-do list. It relaxes you, opens your mind, and allows you to go off the creative grid — with no repercussions.
Stay passionate out there!
