How Brainstorming Eyes-Closed Makes You More Creative

November 2, 2021 — When you’re having a hard time thinking up new ideas, it can help to lie down and let your brain roam.

A couple weeks ago, I got creative creative block working on a video script, which was awkward given the title…

“How to Find Your Purpose in Life.”

Here I was making this guide on the (supposedly) life-changing process I used to get focused and publish my first book — but I couldn’t even finish a single sentence!

I tried all my usual tricks: taking a walk, sketching, listing ideas, watching videos, etc, but I was still stuck.

This went on for days, and every time I made some progress, I would end up deleting everything I wrote.

I was in the eye of the brainstorm, but the clouds of creativity just weren’t opening up.

Hack: Eyes-Closed Brainstorm

Sometimes I get my best ideas at night — and it’s annoying, because I’ll be unproductive all day, and then as soon as I get into bed, my brain’s like: “PARTY AT ANDREW’S HOUSE!!!”

So I decided to trick my brain into being creative by lying down in the middle of the day.
