I feel your pain. I've tried every productivity system possible, and even spent a whole year designing this little wooden to-do holder that showed one task at a time, but there's no perfect system.

Right now, I'm using an Type A/B system where I follow a set process one day (A), then go more freeform the next (B), improving my process, experimenting, and doing whatever I didn't get to the day before.

Even on the Type A days, though, I don't do things at a set time—I generally start the day by drawing a comic and writing an article, but then I follow my intuition/habits and only checkin on my to-do list every so often to make sure I don't miss anything important.

But yes...it's a constant struggle. (:
