Let me just add that doing something you hate only works if it’s directly connected to something you love. Learning to record videos, for example, makes a lot of sense if you’re trying to grow a speech training business.

On the other hand…I used to force myself to plow through awful coding projects as a developer. I was “putting in the work” and just expecting things to get better. One day, I woke up and realized I was just doing stuff I hated without any end goal in sight. I proceeded to drop all my coding clients, and in six months I was making 10x more building simple Squarespace websites. That freed up about thirty hours per week, allowing me to start a writing project, which is what I’m really passionate about. Of course, there are still plenty of tasks I “hate,” but I don’t mind doing them, because they’re helping me grow—they’re leading to someplace better.
