When I think about time, my head always goes straight to Sean Campbell, the gas station attendant who wanted to be a logo designer.

I first saw him on this YouTube series called Young Guns, where aspiring creatives get coached live by Chris Do—things weren’t going well.

Sean’s clip starts with him admitting that he’s been “in a pretty big slump” and hasn’t been creating. Chris then starts asking him a series of questions about how he’s spending his time.

  • Working at the gas station
  • Going to college
  • Hanging out with friends
  • Playing video games

In a matter of minutes, the problem moves from abstract to practical and Chris finally says: “You can see the problem here, Sean. What time do you have to develop your craft?”
