[Modular Happiness] Step 1: Putting Your Values Before Your Goals

While I was running my design business, I had the goal of earning $100k/year. There’s nothing wrong with that, but longterm goals are difficult to accomplish and it’s easy to become impatient or desperate.

When that happens, your brain begins cutting corners. You Google “click funnels.” You watch a video on how to make money FAST. You start cold-calling local businesses. Your goals dictate your values.

Grassroot Goals

A better approach is to choose the right values first and allow your goals to take shape organically. When you do this, when you become happy in the moment (not five years from now), two things will happen…

  1. You will stop caring (stressing) about your longterm goals.
  2. You will miraculously and effortlessly begin to achieve said goals (which you forgot to stress about).
