August 1, 2021 — Dealing with critics is hard, but one day the people who called you crazy will call you for advice.

When I quit my 9–5 copywriting job in 2016 to freelance, one of the first things someone said to me was…

“Are you crazy? Why walk away from good money?”

After that, I got called “selfish,” then “stupid.” Reckless. Unrealistic. Lazy. Obsessed. Worthless. Disorganized. Careless. Extreme.

None of it bothered me at first, but once shit started to get real (money, clients, deadlines, mistakes), I lost my ability to tell truth from jealousy.

That’s the thing with entrepreneurship.

You’re always playing the long game, and the few days or weeks after you get a big win are the only times you ever have 100% certainty about your goals and talents.

Hack: Watch For Advice

While there’s no roadmap to success, one of the best signs is people asking you for advice.

As a web designer, I got a few calls here and there, but when my YouTube account took off and one of my videos went viral, the floodgates really opened.
