Religion vs Atheism: Should You Throw Out the Book? (Or Not)

May 10, 2022 — Building your life philosophy from scratch can be rewarding, but being an atheist is harder than you think.

When I was five, my grandpa gave me a copy of the Bible, and the first chance I had, I threw it out.

Not literally, mind you.

I happened to accidentally “misplace” it into a donation bin, but the point was I didn’t like the idea of some boring old book telling me what to believe and how to live my life.

In fact, the freedom I felt from that decision was so addicting that I started to throw out OTHER BOOKS too.

Lego instructions, appliance manuals, textbooks, coding frameworks, music theory, traditional employment…

Starting from scratch was infinitely rewarding, but it was also 10x more work, and eventually I realized that bootstrapping everything was going to bury me.

My success in life depended on knowing when to throw the book out and when to keep reading.
