What Good is Science If We Can’t Question the System Behind It?
January 2, 2022 — Science is unassailable, but systems are biased and need to be questioned for truth to survive.
In elementary school the first thing I ever learned about science was the scientific method: “Observe, Hypothesize, Test, Analyze, Report.”
I loved conducting self-experiments, and when I started going bald in college, I spent months researching studies…
…but after a year of taking a hair-loss medication my doctor assured me was “safe,” my libido was totally gone.
From there I started noticing other problems: deodorant rashes, antihistamine drowsiness, nasal spray nosebleeds, and digestive chaos from “scientifically verified” diets, each of which contradicted the others.
Finally, following a flu shot in 2019, I developed chronic, body-wide joint inflammation that has yet to resolve.
It felt like the “science” I loved as a kid had betrayed me at every turn, and worse, I didn’t even know why.
