Your Inner Kid Will Make You Rich (If You Let Them)

August 2, 2021 — Adulting can earn you money, but letting your inner kid out to play will make you rich, in more ways than one.

In the summer of 2015, I built my first website and accidentally made $1,000.

The project was for a restaurant owned by my friend Kathy, and I gladly would have done it for free, but she insisted on paying me — and that check changed my life.

For the next three years, I worked like a maniac on my freelance web design business: learning new skills, making contacts, and dialing in my process.

The problem was, when I went to networking events and told people “I design websites,” I didn’t feel a sense of pride or excitement, I felt depressed.

I was so focused on the money, I never stopped to ask myself: “Do I even WANT to be a designer?”

Hack: Free Your Inner Kid

When I was a kid, all I did was draw comics and write stories. But as I got older, my dream of being an author started to feel silly and unrealistic.

It wasn’t until late 2019, when I decided to draw 365 comics in one year that I realized my “silly” childhood skill was my secret weapon.
